On the Joomla Bamboo website they call it a 'minimal grunge' theme, but I'm not sure where the grunge comes from, although I can see it. Does that sound right?
Either way, it is minimal, but it works. The point isn't to throw as much stuff as you can on the front page, it is to show off specific elements - a common theme from these guys and well worth a look.
The theme is, as always now from Bamboo, built on the Zen Grid Framework, so there is loads of flexibility in the backend as well as lots of styling options that come with the 28 (I think that was how many I counted) themes that come with the theme.
