Joomla 1.6 was officially released today. I've had a play and I like it. There are some little things that I still need to get my head around when navigating the backend, but that will come in time. Overall, with all the added features - it is a big step.

However, moving to Joomla 1.6 will, for a lot of us, be determined by our theme provider, so this is where we are going to try and keep you up to date.

Many of the theme providers will continue to roll out themes for Joomla 1.5 as well as 1.6 but not all are making themes as of today for Joomla 1.6, although expect that to change very soon and expect the first themes to be coming out this month or next month.

But, for some of us, it isn't just about new themes - it is about existing themes and that is where the work comes in for the theme providers - they have to go back and make them compatible and for most theme providers these days, it isn't just a theme, it is all the extensions you get with that theme.

Basically, there is a lot of work for these guys now, but the smart ones would have been working on them for a while, so don't expect it to take too long.

As and when new themes are released, as long as they are compatible with Joomla 1.6, we will badge it for 1.6 and as and when we learn of older themes getting upgraded for 1.6, we will also let you know.
